Clermont FL Area Guide
Only 25 or so miles west of the bustling City of Orlando FL, is a community that remains at its heart a small Florida town but is slowly expanding to accommodate its developing infrastructure, the City of Clermont Florida. The largest city in Lake County, Clermont Florida is known throughout the area as the “Gem of the Hills.” That is because the City of Clermont is one of the few areas in the Central Florida region that is alive with rolling hills. Fresh lakes, springs and canals carve out this area’s unique landscape as well.
Founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916, much of Clermont’s old Florida charm and small town appeal is still intact today. Unlike many of its neighboring Central Florida cities, the Clermont area is residential based and its economy lies mostly on retail trade, though the hospitality industries in town are tourism and service oriented.
Clermont currently boasts a population of fewer than 25,000 citizens, and with recent conversions of orange groves into useable land, Clermont has been great choice for local business opportunities and residential development. The historic downtown area is now the city’s commercial center; offering a wide variety of services, shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities, right on the shores of the Central Florida’s beautiful Lake Minneola. Clermont is also the home to one of Florida’s very first landmarks, the Florida Citrus Tower, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in late 2006. Rich Florida heritage, strong downtown district, safe neighborhoods and picturesque parks; all amazing qualities that have made Clermont one of Central Florida’s favorite hidden treasures, truly a gem nestled within the hillside.
The city of Clermont Florida is known throughout the area for its stellar school system and education facilities; the mission statement throughout the Clermont Public Schools is to provide all of their students with the highest education and opportunities for personal learning and growth possible. The Clermont Public Schools system is comprised of Cypress Ridge Elementary School, Lost Lake Elementary, Clermont Middle School, Windy Hill Middle School, East Ridge High School, South Lake High School, Sawgrass Bay Elementary and Pine Ridge Elementary. Lake-Sumter Community College also has a campus located in Clermont
Clermont Parks & Recreation

Some Clermont’s activities include water fun on the local Lake Minneola, “Rails to Trails” bike trail which extends from Clermont to Ocoee, days spent on the beautifully renovated the Jaycee Beach or take a trip the famous Lake Ridge Winery also here in town; whatever you may be looking for in terms of fun, you’ll find it here in Clermont.
