The Windermere Community
In the southwest corner of Orange County and just 14 miles away from Orlando FL, lies the quaint and reliable community of Windermere. Windermere Florida, a charming Central Florida community snuggly fit between the sandy bottom lakes of the spring-fed Butler Chain of Lakes. Lake Butler, Lake Bessie, and Lake Down—along with other smaller lakes—join together to form the Butler Chain of Lakes and form what is the structure of the Windermere area. The structure of the town grants the citizens here some of the best opportunities in terms of education, leisure and activity.
In 1885, a man by the name of Joseph Hill Scott purchased 150 acres in this area of Central Florida. He then went to name this area Windermere, supposedly after Lake Windermere in England. A railroad was built from Kissimmee FL to Windermere here in 1889, the same year the town was officially founded. The city really started to take off in 1910, this was the time two gentlemen from Ohio began to invest and develop the area.
These days Windermere boasts a population over 2,300 or so citizens, its relaxing atmosphere and stunning features has attracted many families to the area looking to raise children. Windermere has some of Central Florida's best schools and has recently been awarded #1 town for families in all of Florida by the Neighborhood Scout organization.
